Asking Claude questions about your club's hockey data (MCP)
Short answer
Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets Claude run read-only queries against tables in your club’s database — using your club’s own Claude account. The Hockey Brain exposes scoped views; SQL is visible so analysts can verify answers. Everything also works without AI in Excel or Power BI.
What MCP adds
Staff can ask plain-language questions — e.g. which defencemen on the scouting list have the best zone exits this season — and Claude retrieves answers from your matched tables, not from the public internet.
Example questions only; answers require your club’s real connected data.
Safety model
Read-only access to views you approve. Your club’s own AI subscription. No training on your data by The Hockey Brain. Queries are logged for review on the club side where Claude provides history.
Status
No connector is live yet. The Hockey Brain lists every named product as Planned or Exploring — intended compatibility only, not a partnership.
Claude/MCP delivery is Planned for founding clubs.
Frequently asked questions
Can we use ChatGPT instead?
ChatGPT is a Planned destination too. The same matched tables feed whichever assistant the club uses.
Do we have to use AI?
No. Ownership and catalogs matter even if every analyst stays in Power BI and Excel.
Is MCP live?
Not yet. Early access is building connectors with founding clubs first.
