Save percentage is saves divided by shots on goal. Raw SV% is heavily influenced by the quality of shots faced, so analysts use quality-adjusted versions like goals saved above expected (GSAx).
GSAx compares actual goals allowed to the expected goals of the shots faced, isolating goaltending skill from team defense.
